Internal Division Of Globus Pallidus

Clearly contoured PNs are associated with GABAergic projection neurons in the external and internal division of the globus pallidus, the lateral and reticular part of the substantia nigra, as well as subpopulations of striatal and thalamic inhibitory interneurons.

Reversal of akinesia by lesions of the internal division of the globus pallidus (GPi) or its excitatory source, the subthalamic nucleus, agrees with this pathological schema.

We investigated the activation of the putamen and the external and internal division of the globus pallidus in 12 normal volunteers during rapid supination and pronation of their right or left hand, using functional MRI (fMRI).
